For 1000 Generations

I was recently reading through the genealogies of Jesus in the new testament and had a revelation regarding God’s Love to the 1000th generation mentioned in Exodous 20:5-6

You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments

The New International Version. 2011. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.

I have often heard the above passage used in the context  needing to break the curses of the sins of our forefathers to the third and fourth generations. In order that the blessing may continue for a thousand generations. I had always considered the blessing to be available to the 1000th generation forward from myself because I broke the curses. However just like the curse can come from the previous three four generations, so too the blessing comes from God through our heritage to the thousandth generation. And if I look to the past and consider the number of  generations I discovered something amazing…

Luke 3:23-38

23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,
the son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, the son of Melki,
the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos,
the son of Nahum, the son of Esli,
the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath,
the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein,
the son of Josek, the son of Joda, (17 generations)

27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa,
the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel,
the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melki,
the son of Addi, the son of Cosam,
the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer,
the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon,
the son of Judah, the son of Joseph,
the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, (37 generations)

31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna,
the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan,
the son of David, 32 the son of Jesse,
the son of Obed, the son of Boaz,
the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram,
the son of Hezron, the son of Perez,
the son of Judah, 34 the son of Jacob,
the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham,
the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, (57 generations)

35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu,
the son of Peleg, the son of Eber,
the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan,
the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem,
the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch,
the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel,
the son of Kenan, 38 the son of Enosh,
the son of Seth, the son of Adam, (75 generations)
the son of God.

The New International Version. 2011. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.

There are 75 generations from Adam to Jesus. And there have been about 2000 years since Jesus. Even if each generation was only 15 years that’s still only 135 generations at most. So the total number of generations since creation is less than 250. We aren’t even a quarter of the way to 1000 generations.

So the blessing of God’s Love flowing through 1000 generations would take me all the way back to Adam  and he is the son of God  so in fact it would take me right back to the very heart of my Father. A restored relationship with my Heavenly Father just as Adam walked with God in the Garden of Eden. Which is why the second Adam came: to give us His relationship of Love with Father.
